Program of culinary tour in Armenia and Karabakh 7 days / 6 nights
Day 1. Yerevan Сity Tour
Arrival in Yerevan. Transfer to the hotel. Lunch at a traditional restaurant. Sightseeing tour through the city: Victory Park, Cascade, Opera House, Republic Square. Dinner at the tapis factory, where besides enjoying the tastiest Armenian dishes from the best chefs there will be an opportunity to get acquainted with the centuries-old traditions of Armenian carpet weaving. A show-program with Armenian songs and dances will be presented. Master class on Armenian dance.
Day 2. Yerevan-Geghard-Garni-Ejmiatsin-Yerevan
Trip to Geghard and visiting Geghard cave monastery (XII-XIIIc., a place where Spear which had wounded Jesus Christ was kept for centuries, (UNESCO World Heritage Sites). Trip to Garni village and visiting Garni pagan temple (I c.), devoted to the god of the Sun. Lunch in a guesthouse.
Trip to Ejmiatsin – one of the historic capitals of Armenia and the main religious center of Armenian people. Visiting the Mother See of Holy Ejmiatsin – the main Armenian Apostolic cathedral. Lunch in the centre of arts. Master class on preparing lavash – Armenian bread, and tolma – Armenian national dish.
Returning to Yerevan. Dinner at restaurant.
Day 3. Yerevan-Khor Virap-Noravanq-Areni-Goris
Trip to Khor Virap monastery, from where a beautiful view to Mount Ararat opens.
Drive to 13th-14th c. Noravanq monastery, situated between the famous red cliffs. Sculptor Momik, who had constructed one of the churches of monastery complex was thrown down from the top of it in order not to be able to build another building of such a beauty. Wine degustation at the wine factory in Areni village, where the best wines in Armenia are made (tasting more than 10 sorts of wine).
Lunch in Chiva village, where besides getting acquainted with the everyday life of Armenian peasant, you will enjoy a master class on making an omelette with tomatoes. Degustation of famous home-made mulberry vodka. Trip to Goris – the town of red roofs and green gardens. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 4. Goris-Shushi-Gandzasar-Askeran-Tigranakert-Stepanakert
Trip to Shushi town (Karabakh) that once was the political, cultural and religious centre of Artsakh province. Visiting Ghazanchetsots church and Jdrduz canyon. Drive to Gandzasar and visiting the miraculous monastery of St. John – the masterpiece of Armenian medieval architecture. Lunch in Vanq village. Tasting unique dishes of Karabakh cuisine. Master class on preparing Zhengyalov Hats – Karabakh bread with filling of different kind of greens.
Trip through Askeran to Tigranakert – the place where once a unique city of 1-st century B.C. was situated. Returning to Stepanakert. Walking through the city with visiting the market. Dinner at restaurant. Overnight at hotel.
Day 5. Stepanakert-Tatev-Qarahunge-Jermuk
Trip to Halidzor. Trip to Tatev monastery by “Wings of Tatev” ropeway that was recorded in the Guinness World Records Book as the world’s longest non-stop reversible aerial tramway with a length of 5,752 meters. At its highest point over the gorge, the tramway travels 320 m above ground level. Returning to Halidzor. Dinner in a guesthouse in Shinuhayr village. Master-class on preparing Goris khashlama (Armenian national dish with meat and potatoes).
Trip to Qarahunge («Armenian Stonehenge») – a prehistoric archaeological site dating back to 8-7 millennium B.C. It is most likely to be an ancient observatory, as there are special circular holes in the stones, which were possibly used to look for astronomical observations.
Trip to Jermuk resort town, known for its mineral water, beautiful waterfall and healthful air. Visiting the gallery of mineral water, which offers an opportunity to taste hot springs of different temperature.
Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 6. Jermuk-Vardenyats-Sevan-Dilijan-Yerevan
Trip to Vardenyats pass (2410m) with visiting medieval caravanserai (1324). Drive through Martuni town to Sevan Lake (1900m). Visiting cross-stones (khachqars) cemetery in Noratus village. Visiting Hayravanq monastery. Fish lunch. Tasting of famous Sevan trout and crayfish kebab. Trip to Sevan peninsula. Visiting Sevan monastery on the peninsula (IX c.)., from where a beautiful view to the lake opens. Trip through Dilijan to Haghartsin. Visiting the “Queen of the Forests” – Haghartsin Monastery, history of which goes back to 13th century. The secluded location of Haghartsin monastery in the forested mountains by the river Agstev will let you feel the atmosphere of appeasement and spirituality. Returning to Dilijan and walking through the center of the old town, visiting souvenirs shops and artisan stores. Dinner at the guest-house. Master class on preparing Armenian barbeque. Returning to Yerevan.
Day 7. Yerevan, departure
Transfer to the airport. Departure from Yerevan.
